John Howard, born John R. Cox Jr., was an American film actor best known for his roles in B-movie serials and adventure films during the 1930s and 1940s. A graduate of the University of California, Howard’s clean-cut looks and confident demeanor made him a favorite for heroic roles in action-packed features.

He gained widespread recognition portraying the title character in the Bulldog Drummond series, appearing in seven installments between 1937 and 1939. He also had a significant supporting role in The Philadelphia Story (1940), opposite Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and James Stewart.

Howard served as a naval officer during World War II, pausing his acting career to contribute to the war effort. He returned to film after the war and continued to act in television through the 1950s before eventually retiring from show business and becoming a schoolteacher.
